DAY89
VOTED OFF NICU ISLAND
A new preemie admission needed a bed in the full-to-capacity
NICU today, so Alyssa was voted off the NICU island and given a
new home in the PICU. She is now sharing a room with another
NICU baby that was also recently transferred there. The team of
nurses it totally different, but at least the Nurse Practitioner on
duty is the same, and one of Heidi’s favorites. She told Heidi
that she is going to allow her to breastfeed Alyssa three times a
day beginning tomorrow – an excellent plan according to Heidi!
Since the nursing team is new and doesn’t know Alyssa at all,
Heidi is going to spend the night in the room on a cot rather than
going back to the Ronald McDonald House. That way, if Alyssa’s
alarms go off a lot (which they have been doing all day because
they are typically set at a higher level in the PICU – for older
children) Heidi can be there to make sure they don’t even think
about putting her back on Oxygen. Alyssa has proven that she
can recover from low saturations levels herself.
Please remember that Tuesday is always “eye exam day”, and
continue to ask God to totally heal the ROP. Last week’s exam
showed an improvement and we are so thankful. This week, we
pray that her eyes would be even better – or better yet, show no
signs of ROP at all – in His name, in His time, and according to His
will. Just as Jesus first let the blind man at Bethsaida see a little,
and then He totally healed his eyes, we too pray with total faith
in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that Alyssa’s eyes would be
totally healed and she would be able to see everything clearly.
