STATE COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
QUALITY ASSESSMENT PROJECT
The safety of all individuals involved in the In-Person Survey (IPS) cycle is a
priority for SCDD. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the IPS cycle will be conducted
remotely.
Much of the procedural expectations for conducting remote surveying is the
same as when conducting surveys in-person. Respecting the individual, listening
carefully, and fully understanding the survey among others is expected of all
contracted surveyors (also known as interviewers).
Getting Started
After completing your initial training, please take time to organize yourself in preparation for
scheduling and conducting surveys. Check the technology you will be using to ensure that it is
in working condition. Make sure you fully understand the procedures. Place ODESA login page
as a shortcut or is saved on your favorites list for quick access to the site.
We also cannot stress enough how important it is to be familiar with the survey tool.
Reviewing the survey tool at this training is not enough to gain familiarity. Please practice
using the In-Person Survey (IPS) with family and friends. You are urged to become as familiar
as possible with the tool to ensure a smooth survey process.
PARTICIPATION IN THE NCI SURVEYS
Participating in the NCI survey is voluntary and an opportunity for individuals to be heard
about their experiences and quality of the services they receive. The surveys are confidential;
answers are aggregated and will not be associated with any one individual. This data collection
effort will enable the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to evaluate the quality and
performance of California’s developmental service system and among all the 21 regional
centers over time in order to effect positive systemic changes.
It is essential that you are knowledgeable about the importance of this survey and can convey
this to individuals involved.
