      Forming a half hitch
A half hitch is a simple maneuver that is one of the building blocks
of knot tying. Usually, half hitches are made around an object, such
as a pole, or another rope.

      Forming a crossing turn

A crossing turn, like a half hitch, is the basis of many knots. It can
be formed by rolling the rope between the finger and thumb of one
hand so that it twists over or under itself to form a loop.
