THE PROGRAM
Two Phase Program
Phase 1 - 2020
Phase 1 of the program in 2020 involved an eight session trust building program, delivered online, that focused
on self-exploration, self-improvement, and empowerment.
Three diverse groups participated in the program in 2020. These groups included...
• Community group 1 - seven male participants of diverse backgrounds between the ages of 16-20 years.
• Community group 2 - nine male and female participants of diverse backgrounds between the ages of 15-18
years.
• Youth in detention group (Melbourne Youth Justice Centre, Parkville) - approximately 20 adolescent male
participants of diverse backgrounds, specific ages unknown.
Phase 2 - 2021
Phase 2 of the program will incorporate a multi-session program that has participants practically applying, in a
football context, mindsets, skills and behaviours learnt in Phase 1.
This phase will have successful participants linked to a local club or a community football hub, running and
managing a public football carnival, earning accreditation for their work, and potentially graduating to Football
Victoria’s Club Crime Prevention program later in the year.
Specifically, as part of this phase, Football Victoria will...
• Engage and build relationships with program partners including Victoria Police and relevant football clubs in
metropolitan and regional areas
• Work with Victoria Police to identify participants
• Deliver a program which will include a football skills acquisition component.
Phase 2 will prepare participants to pursue paths in football such as...
• Coaching
• Refereeing
• Volunteering
• Football administration.
It will also provide them with educational experiences that include...
• Drug and Alcohol education
• TAC education
• Career education
• Leadership and Integrity in Sport education.
