THE REPORT
BRINGING OUR HISTORY TO LIFE
Over the years a number of passionate people in football have worked on a volunteer basis to preserve and share the
history of the game with others. They have worked with little resource, recognition and reward. Without a job description,
remuneration and a prescribed outcomes, their work has been inconsistent, and focused on eras that are familiar to them
rather than adopting a whole-of-history view.
Whilst resourcing a new staff position at Football Victoria dedicated to overseeing the implementation of its histori-
cal program, is subject to the federation’s global budget, it is also governed by the organisation’s short and long term
priorities.
Currently Football Victoria has no position on staff dedicated to overseeing the game’s historical imperatives. This review
provided survey respondents with an opportunity to indicate whether the state body should consider creating such a
position, and if so what that position should look like.
Respondents were given the opportunity to select one of the options provided as their response to the following
question...
To ensure that ideas, concepts and activities that enhance Football Victoria’s historical program are brought to life, which
of the following positions should be created by the state body?
The data shows that over 78% of respondents believe that Football Victoria should consider creating either a full or
part-time position dedicated to overseeing the game’s historical strategy.
Over 21% of respondents indicated that no paid position is required for this role, and that resources should be allocated to
other parts of the game.
The following outlines the percentage of respondents who selected each option.
(a) Football Victoria Historical Officer (Full time position) 40.00%
(b) Football Victoria Historical Officer (Part time position) 38.75%
(c) Football Victoria Historical Officer (Volunteer position) 8.75%
(d) No position is required 12.50%
