REVIEW STRUCTURE AND DEFINITIONS
In July 2019, Football Victoria commenced an independent historical review of the game in this state.
The review brief centred on conducting a survey of those in football with the requisite passion, background, credentials and
expertise to provide relevant and informed feedback to the board.
The survey was accessible online for a six-week period to interested members of the public to complete. Face-to-face
interviews were also conducted with Football Victoria staff, external experts and influencers in the game.
The survey consisted of 17 questions, seven of which related to determining the survey respondents profile.
The questions sourced feedback from respondents on the importance and relevance of maintaining and celebrating the
history of the game, its resourcing, historical committee structure and expertise, best practice examples and potential
partnerships.
In this report, survey respondents refer to all the people who responded to the online survey and those who were interviewed
in person.
Football historians refer to those people who have published Victorian football literature and online content over an
extended period of time. For the purposes of this report, these ‘historians’ include published authors, and football history
enthusiasts, who distribute historical content online, usually from personal collections.
The Home of Football in this report refers to Football Victoria’s proposed new administrative offices, high performance
facility and national home of the Matildas.
