USE SIMPLE EQUIPMENT WELL
During your upcoming event you and your schools mates will be working as a media crew
broadcasting on radio, filming interviews and capturing photos for social media purposes.
Filming and photography can get quite complicated but for this event we are going to keep
things simple. We will be using a basic camcorder for filming and IPads for taking photos.
Whilst the equipment might be easy to use, how you use it will make a big difference to whether
people decide to watch your videos or look at your photos.
FRAMING YOUR SHOT
Framing your shot, even when using simple equipment, is very important. When framing your
shot make sure your camera is not too close or too far away from your subject.
If you are capturing a panel discussion, make sure everyone on the panel is in frame, especially
when you are filming with one camera.
This is called a wide shot. When you have one video camera its best to keep the camera locked
in place. Moving or panning from person to person can have a dizzying effect on the viewer.
EXPERIMENT WITH INTERESTING ANGLES WITH PHOTOGRAPHY
Taking photos is a different matter. Good photos include wide shots and interesting close up
shots of one or two people.
High camera angles looking down or low camera angles looking up, and engaging side angles,
can also make for interesting results.
