CRIME VICTIMS LEAVE – MINNESOTA EMPLOYEES ONLY
A Minnesota employee, in accordance with the Women’s Economic Security Act (WESA), who is the
victim of a violent crime and is subpoenaed or requested by the prosecutor to attend court for giving
testimony, may be granted reasonable time off from work without pay to attend criminal proceedings
related to the victim’s case. An employee who is the victim’s spouse or immediate family member may
be granted reasonable time off from work without pay to attend criminal proceedings related to the
victim’s case.
An employee must give 48 hours’ notice of the request for time off unless impracticable or an
emergency prevents the employee from doing so. Upon request, the employee must provide
verification that supports the employee’s reason for being absent from the workplace. All information
related to the employee’s leave in this section will be kept confidential. The use of PTO and Employer-
Sponsored benefits will be handled consistent with all other leave policies by GESMN.
SCHOOL CONFERENCES
GESMN provides up to 16 hours of unpaid time off during any 12-month period for employees to attend
their child’s school conferences, school-related activities, childcare, or other early childhood programs
related to the employee's child, provided the conferences or school-related activities cannot be
scheduled during non-work hours.
When the time cannot be scheduled during non-work hours, the employee must provide reasonable
prior notice and make a reasonable effort to schedule the time off so as not to disrupt operations.
Employees must use PTO; if they do not have any PTO available, then time off is unpaid.
