DESIGN
Teaching graphic design is both challenging and exciting. On one
hand, there is an abundance of new terminology and rules—dozens of
standards specific to yearbooks alone—for the students to learn and
master. On the other hand, page designers make decisions that set the
overall look and feel of the publication, creating the page designs for
their readers to enjoy.
Many advisers with limited resources and/or a novice staff must start
from scratch. From the basic principles of graphic design to content
module creation to the intricacies of typography, advisers instruct
their staff to look beyond first glance and think deeply about who their
audience is and how they want them to interact with the yearbook.
