Creating Your Index Template
Creating a template in Layout Pro will help you create a consistent look across your entire index.
STARTING YOUR INDEX TEMPLATE
Indexes can only be flowed into flow elements, which makes it fast and easy to create your index section. An Index Flow
Element is the element that names will flow into when creating your index. Design the page how you want the final
Index to look Index Flow Elements from the Flow Tab.
ADD INDEX FLOW ELEMENTS
• Drag and drop Index Flow
Elements onto the page from
the Flow Tab. Adjust your text
box dimensions to fit the format
of your page. You may create
multi-column text for your Index
Flow Elements by clicking the
text thread button in the bottom
right corner of the last text box of
your current Index Flow Element
and then selecting where on the
page you would like the flow
to continue. This will create an
additional text box in the chain.
• Existing text boxes may be
converted to Flow Elements by
selecting the text thread button
on a Flow Element and then
selecting the text box you are
trying to convert. The text box
must be unedited or it will not
allow you to link to it.
• Names will only flow into Index
Flow Elements, there is no
need to lock other elements.
SAVE AS TEMPLATE
For fast multi-page formatting, save
the page or spread as a template
(File>Save As Template). This will
allow you to place the template on all INDEX FLOW ELEMENTS
of your pages to ensure they share Index Flow elements are indicated
the same look. with this icon. To turn these icons off
select View>Show Index Elements.
