and produced some of the first Barolos. Renato Ratti was the first to produce a Barolo from a single
vineyard (Barolo Marcenasco 1965) and to develop a map of the historical crus of Barolo (Carta del Barolo
1976). Renato Ratti (1934 – 1988) is considered the great innovator of Barolo. His sophisticated wine-
making philosophy and his drive for high quality lives on today thanks to the passion and commitment of
his son Pietro.
Renato Ratti cellars based halfway up the hill overlooking the main Barolo valley, was one of the first in the
area using gravity for vinifying and was designed with the concept for creating the lowest impact to the
land and environment. The wines are produced with the respect of tradition and represent perfectly the
quality and uniqueness of the terroir.
