‘THE ARMAGH’ SHIRAZ
The Armagh Shiraz has achieved extraordinary success and is regarded as one of
Australia’s highest quality wines. Jim Barry planted the 3.3 hectare vineyard in 1968
with Shiraz grapes. The vineyard is planted on its own roots on grey sandy abrasive
topsoil over clay subsoil and receives an average rainfall of 600 millimetres per year.
Tasting note : This wine has an inky red with a magenta hue in the glass, the wine
opens with intense aromas of rich dark fruit, sweet and savoury spice, dark
chocolate and dried herbs. The palate displays concentrated dark fruit flavours of
blackberry and cherry supported by liquorice and creamy mocha oak. A wine of
great power, length and poise.
‘THE McRAE WOOD’ SHIRAZ
A tribute to Jim Barry's inherent business friend, Duncan McRae Wood. In 1964,
Jim purchased 70 acres of prime land from Duncan McRae Wood and planted his
first vineyard with Shiraz. It was an inspired choice of both grape variety and
location. ‘The McRae Wood’ Shiraz is 100% estate grown Shiraz from the Clare
Valley, South Australia. The wine was first produced in 1992.
Tasting note : This wine has a dark, inky red hue. Showing lifted notes of blackberry
and blueberry fruits, liquorice, perfumed-violets and a lick of toasty vanilla oak. On
the palate vibrant dark forest fruits of blackberry and plum are complemented by a
rich streak of earthy goodness. Rich fruit cake fruits, cherry and blackberry
supported with balanced acidity and complex, delicate grained tannins.
THE BARRY BROS’ SHIRAZ CABERNET SAUVIGNON
“Just as the two previous generations brought new and innovative viticultural
and winemaking ideas to Jim Barry Wines, we are determined to forge our
individual mark. We have taken inspiration from our family’s history to create
this wine. Our two favourite varieties, Shiraz and Cabernet, were blended to
deliver a contemporary expression of this traditional Australian style.”
Tasting note : Dark purple in appearance. Dark fruits with scents of liqueur
cherries, blackberry, blood plum, aniseed and spice. The wine opens up and
displays lifted violet floral notes. On the palate there are juicy red fruits of
cherry, plum and raspberry with hints of savoury herbs. This wine displays a
brightness complemented by supple tannins and a persistent finish.
