Rocco took a particular shine to two local
schoolgirls, Hattie and Eva Simone. They loved
to watch him catch his bit of steak, or liver, or
whatever the Butcher had going spare, and they’d

stroke him and shake his paw.

Hattie and Eva Simone liked to show the other
children the best way to say hello to Rocco.

They told the little ones to give Rocco space and to

ask Charlie if it was okay to stroke him. Then they
told the children to slowly bend down to Rocco’s
level, not to lean over him, and to gently put a
closed hand towards him so he could sniff them

first. Then, if Rocco was happy, they could gently
pat him, or if he really liked them he would shake a
paw or high-five them.

Rocco loved doing high-fives.
