iii) Fire Safety Measures – Provision of Modular type fire Extingushers in
DEMU Engine Compartments:

A total of 23 DPCs have been provided with modular
type roof mounted fire extinguishers to prevent any
fire incidents on DEMUs.

c) Reliability Improvement Measures:

i) Modification in Control system of 1600 HP DPCs:

To improve the reliability, carried out modification by
replacing frequent failing 24 V alternators of 1600HP
with 1400HP 24V alternators.

ii) Developed1600 HP DEMUAC Traction motor Trial run Unit

Test Panel for the AC TM Trial run Conducting Trial run for AC TM

 The shed has developed the AC traction motor trial run test kit for 1600 HP DEMU AC
3 phase motors completely in-house.

 The existing Alco compressor test drive panel was utilized with slight modifications.
Cost Savings: The Trial run test kit for 1600 HP DEMU costs about INR 14 lakhs and
shed also obtained M&P sanction. Now shed has proposed to drop the same, thereby
affecting a savings to the tune of INR 14 lakhs.
