This creative approach really contributed significantly to the
development of Malaysian Buddhism. Many of the young
monks and nuns who received dana from the Malaysian Sangha
Fund are today contributing actively to the growth of Malaysian
Buddhism. The thousands of devotees who contributed to this
fund would rejoice to know that they have contributed to the
development of Malaysian Buddhism.
Personal/Memorial Charity Fund
Another creative idea of the Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia
was the establishment of the Personal/Memorial Charity Fund.
Hitherto, it was the privilege of a few billionaires to set up
charity fund under their personal names. In 1986, the Yayasan
Belia Buddhist Malaysia set up the Personal/Memorial Charity
Fund, whereby anyone who contributed RM1000 and above
(amended to RM2000 and above since 2017) could set up a fund
under his or her own name, or in remembrance of deceased
relatives. The Fund would be used to carry out long term charity
works especially in offering scholarships to students in tertiary
institutions. It is a creative idea that is totally in line with the
working philosophy of Yayasan: For Buddha, for you for all.
Today, 451 Personal/Memorial Charity Funds had been set up,
and the total amount in the funds is RM1,436,109. More than
382 students in tertiary institutions had benefitted from an aid of
RM1000 each. The fund was also used to aid lay students of
Malaysian Buddhist Institute (monastics received the aids under
