Malaysian Sangha Fund), to pay for examination fees of SPM
and STPM students, to sponsor activities organised by Buddhist
societies of tertiary institutions. In recent times, part of the fund
is also used to organise educational activities in secondary and
primary schools.
The Personal/Memorial Charity Fund is a creative idea in the
Buddhist world. In my encounter with other Buddhist leaders in
the world, I have not come across a fund of similar modus
operandi.
Bodhi Park
The creative approach of Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia has
become the DNA of the Yayasan’s organisational development.
In recent times, several innovative ideas were introduced.
First is the Bodhi Park. The Bodhi Park is a strategic move by
Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia to develop Malaysian
Buddhism. Located at a 1.7 acre land in Shah Alam, it began
operation in 2012.
There were already many Buddhist organisations and temples in
and around the Klang valley. The leaders of Yayasan began to
ponder over the positioning of the Bodhi Park. Is it going to be
just like another Buddhist organisation or temple, with the
weekly puja/chanting or Sunday classes and occasional Dharma
talks? Apart from this stereotype Buddhist organisation or
temple, what other alternatives are available? Is it going to be a
training centre of the Yayasan? If it is a training centre of
Yayasan, how would the modus operandi be?
