Nibbana
佛陀⼊湼槃 Nirvana
Gautama Buddha’s last days were spent at Kushinagar. On
the day of his nibbana he gave them his final teaching. The
precise English translation of these final words, like all
Buddhist teachings, is open to interpretation as it was ⼤湼槃寺, 拘⼫那罗
spoken in Pali and passed on orally, not being written down Mahaparinirvana Temple,
for some centuries after Buddha’s death. One such Kushinagar
interpretation is: “Behold, O monks, this is my advice to you.
All component things in the world are changeable. They are
not lasting. Work hard to gain your own salvation.”
The last Bhikkhu to be ordained by the Buddha was (尼泊尔 Nepal: 2005)
Subhadra. When the Buddha was on his bed Subhadra came
to him to ask him about the doctrine. The Buddha allowed
him to come to his presence. After a discussion Subhadra
wished to enter the order of Bhikkhus. The Buddha allowed
him to enter the order, just before the Buddha attained
Supreme Nibbana. (寮国 Laos: 1953)
