The BUDDHA
The BUDDHA
The Buddha did not claim any divine status, nor
did he profess to be a personal saviour of sorts.
He called himself a guide and teacher. His
message appealed to all social classes in
ancient India, from merchants to farmers and to
the untouchable caste. Gautama Buddha spent
his years travelling through deep forests, from
village to village encouraging the people to
reconsider their purpose and point of life to
recalibrate their moral compass.
Gautama Buddha did not establish a temple
system as such during
his lifetime of preaching. The significant
locations in his life were gradually turned into
shrines after his passing away.
