Historic Town of The Sukhothai Historical Park covers the ruins of Sukhothai,
literally translated as “Dawn of Happiness”. It was the capital
Sukhothai of the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries, in
what is now Northern Thailand.
The origin of Sukhothai Arts
Year of Inscription: 1992 Within the walls of Sukhothai are the ruins of twenty one
wats and monuments, the greatest of which is Wat
Mahathat. Wat Si Chum Sitting Buddha is the biggest sitting
Buddha in Thailand. Wat Phra Si Iriyabot is famously knows
as “Temple of the four postures of the Buddha”, but now only
one of these temples remains standing.
