Borobudur Temple Compound
The ancient temple been buried underground for thousand year.
Year of Inscription: 1991
The Borobudur Temple Compound is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. It was built in
762-824 AD. The monument is a marvel of design, decorated with 2672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues.
The stupa architectural design is like a giant three-dimensional mandala, representing Kamadhatu (the world
of desire), Rupadhatu (the world of forms) and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness). The temple has
remained strong even through ten centuries of neglect. It was rediscovered in 1815, buried under volcanic ash.
