indicates that they were aware of the medicinal effects of a number of plants.

                  ▪ In the old Indian medicine, the fresh plants were considered the most effective

in treating illness. Among the drugs frequently used by them are sandal wood,

                      clove, caraway, cannabis, and aloes.

                  ▪ The Chinese medicine is very acknowledged for the herbal medicine. They

thought that for every disease there must be a drug curing it that is provided

by nature. Ginseng, rhubarb, ephedra, opium, pomegranate are among the

most important plants used by the Chinese. The Greeks treated many diseases

by crude drugs. There are several famous names for men contributed significantly

to the study of natural products. Hypocrates (referred to as the father of

medicine), Aristotle, Theophrastus, Pliny, Dioscorides and Galen are among

                      these famous names.

                  ▪ We must not forget the role of the Arab scientists such as” Ibn Sina “whose book

"Canon" of medicine has been described as the most famous medical text ever

written. “Ibn Al-Bitar, “”Gaber Ibn Hayan”, “Abu Bakr El-Razi” have also

distinct role in the field of herbal medicine. Dawood El-Antaki wrote "Tazkarate

                      Dawood".
