B- Steam Distillation

Saturated or superheated steam at low pressure is used with gradual increase in the pressure.
Steam passes through the plant material, diffuse inside the tissue, liberate the oil and carry it
to be distilled off till exhausion.

Advantages: Complete exhaustion Disadvantages: Sharing of the plant
material

C- Water-Steam Distillation

Water is used to fill the lower part of the still and the plant material put over a perforated
screen above the water level, and a steam source is supplied to achieve the distillation. Water
used only to control the temperature of the steam by heating it if required.
Water:

-used to control the temperature -Generate more steam
