• Thymoquinone possesses hepatoprotctive activity comparable with
Silymarin and inhibits leucotrienes and thromboxane synthesis which
could help in treatment of cough.
• Thymoquinone is antioxidant

Isolation: by 5% KOH method.
Characters:
Oily liquid with clove-like odour & burning spicy taste.
It gives a blue color with FeCl3. Eugenol
K-eugenate is a needle shape crystals formed by addition KOH to eugenol in microscale.
(Microcrystallization Test)
Heating eugenol with KOH isomerise it to isoeuginol
Uses:
1. Local anaethetic & antiseptic in toothache remedies
2. combined with zinc oxide to form zinc oxide eugenol which has applications in
dentistry
3. Spice & flavouring agent
4. Potential hypocholesterolemic agent.
5. Synthesis of vanillin (not practical)
