Definition:- Crude drugs occur naturally in powder form, and classified into:-
A-Dusting powder Of Plant origin B-Dusting powder Of Metallic origin
(Starch grains, Lycopodium spores, (Talc, Kieselguhr, Sulfur Precipitated
Kamala) chalk, Kaolin )

1-Lycopodium spores
Origin:-The ripe spores of common clubmoss
Lycopodium Clavatum F. Lycopodiaceae
- Lycopodium is a spore-bearing vascular plant
Shape:-Pyramidal in shape with three side walls,
While the base is convex, with reticulation on the surface and projection
appeared from edges
-They have uniform size, shape
& 1 mg contains 94000 spores.
Active Constituents:-
1-Alkaloids as : Lycopodine most common in the genus Nicotine
2-Fixed oil :- Glycerides of Lycopodiumoleic acid
Uses
1- Production of snuffs (diluent)
and pills (prevent adhesion of pills)
2-Standard reference in quantitative microscopy
Because it has Uniform shape & 1 mg contains 94000 spores
3- Production fireworks (as it is flamable, burn with brilliant flash)
2-Kamala
Origin:-The trichomes and glands separated from the
fruits of Mallotus Philippinensis F. Euphorbiaceae
Constituents :- Red coloured Resin 65%
Anthelmintic phloroglucinol derivatives(Rottlerin, isorottlerin )
