To flush the cooling water systems for the air conditioner in the forward cabin do the following:
• The vessel must be in the boathouse connected to shore power.
• Open the engine room deck on the starboard side
• Switch on the air conditioner isolator on the 220 V AC panel.
• The wheelhouse cooling water pump is fitted on the toilet on the port side or in the tanks space
under the deck gratings in the tank space. The cooling water sea valve and strainer are under
the deck plate in the Tank space.
• Open the water strainer lid and insert the freshwater hose pipe.
• Open the freshwater to the strainer and pump, and have a crew member start the air condi-
tioner in the forward cabin control panel. Control the water flow to the strainer to ensure that
there is sufficient freshwater to not run the pump dry. There will be some water spillage.
• Run the air conditioner as normal for a few minutes to flush the system.
• When finished, replace the strainer lid and make sure it is secure for normal operations.

6.20. ORC 140 ABANDON SHIP
The Stokes basket is stowed in the forward cabin under the steps in two halves. Once assem-
bled and the locking pins inserted to keep the two halves joined, it can be used to transport a
patient or to recover a person from the water using the MOB crane fitted to the port side of the

Should a patient have to be treated in the basket, there are brackets for the basket to rest on, in
the wheelhouse on the starboard side over the two crew seats. The forward crew seat folds down
and the stainless steel pipe bracket (which is stored in the forward cabin on the starboard side
next to the storage lockers) is fitted. The Stokes basket fits on top of this, and can be secured in
position. The patient in the Stokes basket can then be treated.

The head of the patient in the Stokes basket should be towards the bow of the vessel.
