water alarms that indicate in the wheel-
house on the alarm panel on the
right-hand side of the dashboard, next to
the starboard engine display.
All highwater bilge alarms sound in the
wheelhouse with an audible alarm and a

silenced when it is in the high water condi-
tion, but the visual alarm cannot be
switched off – it will only go off when the
water level drops below the switch point.
The alarm sensors and pumps are distributed as follows:
• Tiller compartment
• Engine room (two alarms & pumps, on separate circuits)
• Tank space
• Forward cabin
6.18. ORC DECK CREW OPERATING ON THE VESSEL FOREDECK
Crew going up to the bow of the rescue vessel must be harnessed onto the vessel safety line
system when at sea. The coxswain/ Helmsman must issue instructions for the deck crew to pro-
ceed up the port or starboard gunnels to the foredeck.
The coxswain/helmsman will slow down the rescue vessel to a safe speed for them to proceed
up to forward deck.
• Deck crew to clip onto the safety line carriage car system
• Deck crew to stay in the aft deck safety area while clipping the safety harness to their life jacket
D-ring.
• Once clipped on, it is safe to open the safety lanyard fitted to the aft deck railing and engine
room air vent enclosures.
Personal Deck Safety System
The Deck Safety System is a rigid, extruded aluminium rail system providing
both a functional solution to modern fall protection problems, and proactive
restraining system for multiple users.
Its four-wheel attachment carriage provides an uninterrupted/continuous
safety system for clip-on safety harnesses, allowing free movement without
adjustment over the full length of the rail. This is achieved by anchorages that when fixed to a
vessel structure or its stanchions allow the rail to float.
