6.17. ORC 140 HIGH WATER BILGE ALARMS AND ELECTRIC BILGE PUMPS

Note : Fuel filters cartridges can only be changed when the Cummins diesel engine is
      stopped and not running!

Each Cummins engine has a dual fuel filter system fitted in the fuel feed
line to the engine. It contains two fuel filters and a yellow handled fuel
change over valve which is fitted between the two fuel filters.
To do a fuel filter change-over from one fuel filter to the next you can do the
following while the engines are running at idle speed:

      • In the centre of the dual fuel filter system is a yellow handle with an arrow pointer on one end
      of the handle

      • The arrow pointer will be pointing in the direction of the fuel filter that is currently in operation

      • To change over to the spare fuel filter, swing the handle through 180 deg for the arrow pointer
to point at the spare fuel filter. This filter change operation can be done while the engine is run-
ning at low idle, and by quickly moving the handle across.

To change the fuel filter carriages on the Racor dual filter station the following must be done:
      • Engine must be in the stopped condition.
      • Move the yellow handle to the vertically position with the arrow pointing up, this closes the fuel
supply to the filter from the fuel tank.
      • Engine must be in the stopped condition.
      • Move the yellow handle to the vertically position with the arrow pointing up, this closes the fuel
supply to the filter from the fuel tank.
      • Undo the tee-handle on top of the filter, and remove the top cover.
      • Have a bucket ready to place the dirty fuel filter cartridge in once removed from the housing.

      • Undo the tee-handle on top of the filter, and remove the top cover.
      • Have a bucket ready to place the dirty fuel filter cartridge in once removed from the housing.
      • Clean up any diesel spilt during this process.
      • Clean out the fuel bowl if required.
      • Hand tighten down the top lid using the tee-handle.
      • Clean up any spilt fuel.

On the Cummins engine, the secondary inline fuel filter is before the common rail pressure pump.
This can only be changed when the engine is in the stopped condition and not running, and is
      normally done by Cummins.
If required, change the same way as the Racor fuel filter, disconnecting the water alarm wiring off
the bottom of the fuel housing.
