5. GENERIC STANDARD
OPERATING PROCEDURES
5.1. WASHING OF THE RESCUE VESSEL AFTER USE
After the rescue vessel has been used, it needs to be washed with freshwater and automotive
soap. The washing of the vessel is started on the wheelhouse and deck, first washing with fresh-
water to get the salt off, followed by washing with buckets of automotive soap and water using
brooms to wash down the wheelhouse and deck.
This is followed with a freshwater rinse to remove the soapy water.
The hull receives the same treatment as the wheelhouse and deck to remove salt and any oily
grime on the hull.
5.2. MAINTENANCE OF THE LAUNCHING WINCH WIRE ROPE
To reduce corrosion on the winch wire rope, it should be washed down with freshwater to remove
the salt after each launch or recovery of the rescue vessel. The wire rope should be greased with
wire rope dressing to prevent the cable rusting and breaking under load, this should be done by
the Bosun on a quarterly basis when the cable is dry .
