3. Scope of occupational health:
The scope of occupational health and safety is three-folds:
a. Anticipation and recognition of workers’ health problems, the
causes of these problems may be chemical, physical, biological,
psychological, and ergonomical environments.
b. Evaluation of the recognized problem, which encompasses
mainly data collection, analysis, interpretation, and
recommendations.
c. Development of corrective actions to eliminate or limit the
problem.
4. Organizations responsible for Occupational health:
World health organization (WHO)
A. Global Plan of action on Workers’ Health 2008–2017
This plan of action deals with all aspects of workers’ health, including
primary prevention of occupational hazards, protection and promotion
of health at work, employment conditions, and a better response from
health systems to workers’ health.
B. Sustainable developmental goals (SDGs) related to Occupational
health:
Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth,
full and productive employment and decent work for all
Occupational Safety & Health Administration
(OSHA)
A. OSHA establishment:
On December 29, 1970, President Nixon signed the Occupational Health
and Safety, or OSH Act. This Act created OSHA, the agency, which
formally came into being on April 28, 1971. For the first time, all
employers in the United States had the legal responsibility to provide a
safe and healthful workplace for employees. And, there were now
uniform regulations that applied to all workplaces.
