MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CARE (MCH)



               Causes of preschool mortality:

                     1.  Gastro enteritis.

                     2.  Bronchopneumonia and bronchitis. (A.R.I)
                     3.  Accidents.

                     4.  Congenital anomalies (especially congenital heart).

               Preschool child mortality rate:   21.23 /1000 (UN estimates 2019)



               Role of the community health nurse working in MCH services

               I.  Administrative role


                     Participate in the organization of the MCH program.
                     Evaluate nursing services given to the consumers.

                     Participate  in  planning,  job  description,  delegation  of  work  and
                       working hours for nursing staff.
                     Participate  in  health  teaching  programs  and  in-service  training
                       programs for nursing staff.

                     Systematic gathering of information for evaluation of progress of
                       the program.
                     Cooperate with other health workers in the health team.


              II.  Supervisory role


                     Understand the policy of the agency.
                     Ensure that the health personnel under her supervision known the
                       function they are expected to perform.
                     Supervise the function of her staff.

                     Participate  in  the  in-service  training  program  according  to  the
                       needs of her staff.
                     Conduct group discussion with the staff.

                     Guide her staff to overcome their difficulties in work setting.
                     Help in monitoring and implementing the plan of action.
                     Assess the needs of the staff, equipment and supplies.


             III.  Functional role

                     Case finding, from patient history, home visit and referral.
                     Assist in medical examination and history taking.
                     Follow-up of cases.
