I glanc e at hi s bed . Then at hi m. “Right no w?”

He no ds and walks over to me. In one swift movem ent , he lifts my
dres s up and over my hea d, unt il I’m stand ing in the middle of hi s
bed room floor in my bra and pant ies . I cover mysel f, but he does n’t
ev en look twice. He pulls me toward the bed and lifts the covers for
me to crawl in. As he’s walking over to hi s side of the bed he says, “It’s
no t like we ha ven’t slep t together bef ore witho ut ha ving sex . Piec e of

                cake. ”
I laugh. He rea ches hi s dres ser and plugs hi s pho ne in to a cha rger.
I take a momen t to skim hi s bed room. Thi s cert ainl y isn’t the type of
spare bed room I’m used to. Three of my bed rooms could fit in her e.
There’ s a couch agains t the other wall, a cha ir facing a tel ev ision and
a full offic e off the bed room tha t looks complet e with a floor-to-
cei ling library. I’m still trying to see ev er ythi ng around me when the

                lamp goes off.
“Your sister is real ly rich,” I say as I feel hi m pull the covers over both
of us. “Wha t the hel l does she do with the ten bucks an ho ur I pay
her? Wi pe her ass with it?”
He laughs and grabs my ha nd, sliding hi s fing ers thro ugh mine.
“She probably does n’t ev en cash the chec ks,” he says. “Have you ev er

                chec ked ?”
                    I ha ven’t. Now I’m curious.
“Goodni ght , Lily,” he says.
I can’t stop smiling , bec ause this is kind of ridiculous. And so grea t.
                    “Goodni ght , R yle. ”

I thi nk I might be lost.
Ever ythi ng is so whi te and so clea n, it’s blind ing . I shu ffle thro ugh
one of the living rooms and try to find my way to the kitchen. I ha ve

no idea where my dres s end ed up last ni ght , so I pulled on one of
R yle’s shirts. It falls past my knees , and I wond er if he ha s to buy shi rts
tha t are too big for hi m just so they ’ll fit hi s arms.
There are too many wind ows and way too much sun, so I’m forced
to shi el d my ey es as I go in sea rch of coffee.

I push thro ugh the kitchen doors and find a coffeem aker.
