Electric mobility projects in Bogotá
In August 2013, a pilot project was launched in the city of Bogotá for
the operation of fifty electric taxis; The project was supported by the
Mayor of Bogotá and the company Enel Codensa.
In June 2017, an articulated battery electric bus was tested in the
Transmilenio bus rapid transit (BRT) system, and since 2014 hybrid bus
operations began.
In the last 2 years, a total of 889 electric buses were acquired, which are
expected to come into operation in the coming months. This figure places
Bogotá as one of the cities with the most electric buses in the region.
BYD won the contract for the first 379 buses for the Integrated Public
Transportation System of Bogotá (SITP), which will come into operation in
September 2020.
In addition, in January 2021 was announced that BYD will supply 1,002 units of
100% electric buses to Bogotá 's mass transportation system. The delivery of this
fleet of vehicles is scheduled for 2021 and the first half of 2022. BYD will partner
with the companies Superpolo and Busscar to make the bus bodies.
