NAOMI WALKER
Naomi Walker was born in Pittsburgh, Pa, in 1987. Her senior year of
high school she decided to take an art class. Towards the end of the
school year her teacher told Naomi that she had great ideas, which
was eighty percent of what it took to be a great artist. The other
twenty was skill, and that was easy to obtain. Naomi realized she
wanted to study art in college. Naomi went to the University of
Pittsburgh and obtained a bachelor degree in Marketing from the
College of Business Administration and a bachelor degree in Studio
Arts from the College of Arts and Sciences. The highlight of her
college years was receiving the university’s Dean Award in 2009 for a
painting she submitted to the senior show. Naomi recently celebrated
her 26th birthday by having her first art show. Naomi remains a visual
artist discovering her capability. She creates art under the moniker and
brand, BirthdayGirl, SugarFoot, andGG. She has learned to stay open
and flexible, but also remain conscientious at all stages of making.
She creates art that documents specific and nonspecific events, places,
and people in her life. She enjoys dealing with patterns, idea
conception, and narrative. Art has become a personal vent, mental
exercise, and entertainment to her. Her work is usually layered with
multiple concepts because it is reflective of her desire to manage the
complexities of her life while connecting to others. She enjoys most
when others make a connection to her work. She hopes for future
opportunities to continue her exploration, and looks forward to a
viable career in the arts and business.
JOSHUA WALLS
I am an emerging artist from Memphis Tennessee; I started displaying
my art during undergrad at the university of memphis and continued
to in Hagerstown Maryland after moving closer to my close family
that relocated east. I began to sell artworks on display in Pittsburgh
PA after moving here in 2011. My work centers on location a great
deal as my statement has implied. I believe we consider our area of
residence and where we were born to be of major significance, so my
works of late always include subtractive spaces of color that are
replaced with the background walls on which the paintings hang.
Overall this symbolizes how we consider our upbringing a major part
of ourselves although the truth is we are what makes are home
whatever it is in the first place. One of my Major believes is that we
can make the first steps and take the lead, redefining what our
environments are or were meant to be, or we can pick up where
another left off; to follow a truly inspirational being. I embrace the
challenges that occur in life, and seek to do what has not been
