RICHENA B.
I wanted to become a great ceramicist and create dishes, selling my line
in department stores. I went to Manchester Craftsmen's Guild in high
school to learn to do this but the class was full…that’s when I fell in
love with photography. I was placed into a photography class at MCG
and learnt the basics of photography and the fundamentals of film. I
enjoyed the process and printing in Black and White. I approached
digital photography as I did Black and White film; with care and
patience. Soon evolving from a student to a teacher of students just like
me. I wanted to teach others what I had learned and was glad to be
asked to teach photography to high school students for the summer
workshop, Frank Bolden Urban Journalism Workshop. I’ve taught for
12 years and freelanced, all the while going back to college to gain my
Bachelors degree in the Science of Photography from the Art Institute
of Pittsburgh. While gaining my degree, I entered my photography into
a variety of exhibits and art shows. I’ve showcased work with Women
of Vision at Penn State. I enjoy creating photos for exhibition and
using different processes from transference to drawing and painting.
