The West Highland Line to Fort William and Isle of LewisYour holiday starts in Glasgow. After checking in to our hotel and meeting the Tour Manager, there%u2019s time to look around before dinner. Leaving Glasgow on Day 2, we take a scenic journey on the West Highland Line to Fort William, crossing the wild Scottish Highlands. Our hotel in Fort William is beside the River Nevis, close to Ben Nevis. With a free afternoon, you could walk beside the river towards Glen Nevis. We rejoin the West Highland Line on Day 3, travelling to the fishing port of Mallaig. On the most scenic section of the route, we cross the remarkable Glenfinnan Viaduct. In Mallaig, we take the ferry to Skye, then sail to Stornoway on Lewis, with dinner onboard. There, we drive to the village of Borve for a late check-in. Days 4-5. Callanish Stones and the wildlife of the HebridesIn Stornoway our guide is an expert in Hebridean history. On a unique sea eagle safari, we may also see herons, seals or dolphins. After a fish and chips lunch we return to our hotel with time to unwind before dinner. We visit the Ness Historical Society on Day 5, whose aim is to preserve the history, language and culture of North Lewis. The museum%u2019s exhibits bring the heritage of the area to life, providing an insight into local culture. After free time in Stornoway we drive up to the magnificent Callanish Stones, giant Neolithic structures. Our final stop is Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, a preserved crofting township which we explore before returning to our hotel. Days 6-8. To Inverness & homeward boundOur specialist guide joins us on a visit to the Stornoway Museum, which tells the story of this Outer Hebridean island and its people. With a range of artefacts and interactive exhibits, this is an interesting place to spend a couple of hours. After time to find lunch in Stornoway, we board the ferry back to Ullapool. From here, we travel through the rugged Highlands to Inverness, where we check in to our hotel. A free morning on Day 7 is a chance to discover Inverness before boarding the train back to Glasgow.
