News 9Who is Roclanda for? You may be prescribed Roclanda if all of the following apply: %u2022 You have open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension; %u2022 Other eye drops, in particular prostaglandin analogues such as latanoprost, haven%u2019t reduced your eye pressure enough; %u2022 Other combination drops haven%u2019t worked well enough; %u2022 You can%u2019t use a combination drop containing a beta-blocker. What are the potential advantages of Roclanda? Roclanda works in a different way to other eye drops for glaucoma. It improves outflow of fluid through the trabecular meshwork, the main drainage channels out of the eye. Other eye drops work by reducing production of fluid or improving drainage through other routes. Therefore, Roclanda might work well for people who have tried other eye drops unsuccessfully, or who need treatment to lower their eye pressure further. Roclanda also only needs to be used once a day. This makes it easier for people to manage their eye drops successfully %u2013 it%u2019s easier to remember to take one eye drop once a day, than to take different eye drops at different times. What are the possible disadvantages of Roclanda? As with all treatments, Roclanda comes with the risk of some side effects. The most common side effect is a painless red eye. People using Roclanda may also see faint lines appear in their cornea, called corneal verticillata. As with all eye drops, some itching and discomfort is possible. As the drop also contains latanoprost, the common side effects of prostaglandin analogues such as a darkening of the iris, and longer and thicker eye lashes, are possible. Is this the solution we%u2019ve all been waiting for? At Glaucoma UK, our vision is an end to preventable sight loss from glaucoma.A new type of effective treatment is always a good thing, especially a low-risk eye drop that only needs to be taken once a day. That gives patients more choice and makes it more likely that people will find a treatment that works for them. As more people start to use Roclanda, in the UK and elsewhere, our understanding of who benefits will improve further. It%u2019s unlikely to be the silver bullet, but it%u2019s always helpful to have more tools in our armoury in the fight against glaucoma.
