Educational Excellence Demonstrating Excellence “Going for the Gap”
KEY ASPECTS
  ETHOS
“Your Child is Our Child”
The individual child remains the lodestone and central focus of our Trust’s strategy and vision. They are and always will be at the core of all we do and all we strive to achieve.
  GUIDED PROFESSIONAL AUTONOMY
We believe our schools are run best by those who know them best. Our aim is to provide a strong, stable, and flexible framework, driven and informed by our common ethos, within which our individual schools can operate efficiently, effectively and in the best interests of our students.
Our schools are unified through our extensive collaborative network which stretches across, informs, and supports all aspects of school life: from the academic and holistic progress of our students to the professional progress of their teachers; from the utilisation and understanding of the latest educational research to the sharing and development of best teaching practice.
 DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH BASED PRACTICE
Our vision is to establish ALP as a respected research community where evidence -informed practice underpins all aspects (school improvement and central services) of the Trust’s development and strategic growth. ALP’s vision for research informed practice is achieved through three key objectives:
Advocate – advance the use of research and evidence-informed practice by deepening knowledge and understanding of staff.
Connect – by creating an inclusive and sustainable programme of professional development.
Empower – evaluate, embed and sustain best practice to improve outcomes for students.
ALP CPD programmes are underpinned by educational research and theory and all members of the School Improvement Team ensure that that their work is informed by research based practice. The ALP Expectations document provides a research toolkit for leaders to utilise when they are developing and embedding their own practice. The Trust utilises the Education Endowment Foundation implementation model (‘explore-prepare-deliver-sustain’) when developing key aspects of practice. The development of evidence-informed practice is facilitated through collaboration with a wide range of professionals which enable us to draw upon expertise at a local and national level. ALP’s network leaders make an important contribution to
our research community and three distinct teams (subject, thematic and personal development) have been established to promote further collaboration and growth.
   COLLABORATIONS DRIVING STUDENT SUCCESS
 HEADSHIP NETWORKS & SUPPORT
Headteachers meet on a weekly basis which provides opportunities for collaboration and sharing of practice and this is further enhanced by the mentoring programme for Headteachers which enables colleagues to benefit from bespoke support and development.
ALP NETWORKS
ALP networks (twenty-five networks covering extensive range of subjects and whole school themes). Half-termly calendared meetings and bulletin complemented by informal networking opportunities throughout the year.
EXTERNAL PARTNERS
Outward facing organisation working in collaboration with other Trusts.
CIVIC PARTNERSHIPS
NORTH EAST PRIMARY RESEARCH PROJECT
The North East Primary Research Collaboration is an opportunity for progressive and outward facing primary schools to participate in professional development with like-minded professionals. There will be a blended model of delivery including online and face to face workshops, input from external professionals and relevant research and reading.
 LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
LEADERSHIP ACCREDITATION
ALP’s ‘Leadership in Action’ courses provide personalised support and creative opportunities to help staff to thrive in their current role and equip them with the skills and knowledge to take the next step in their career. Our delivery model adopts a blended learning approach, providing a mix of self-directed learning with face-to-face input, further reading, expertise in school and exposure to leadership practice.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
We recognise that investment in the training and development of teaching and non-teaching staff is essential to ensure that we retain high quality staff and inspire our leaders of the future. Bespoke professional development for every school is complemented by ALP courses which provide an opportunity to benefit from our internal expertise and input from our extensive range of external partners. Our structured programme of career progression ensures high quality training relevant to career stage, from Initial Teacher Training to Senior Leadership.
EVERY STUDENT A LEADER
ALP Legacy programme provides a diverse range of opportunities for collaboration and personal development of students. ALP Student Leader- ship Programme – connecting students from across the trust through regular meetings and events. ALP competitions: half termly themed ‘ALP Superstar’ competitions linked to relevant local, national and international events.
 BEST PRACTICE
COLLABORATION, CLARITY AND CONSISTENCY
 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM
The structure of our School Improvement Team ensures that the standard of education is continually progressed.
Our individual schools retain the benefit and influence of their high impact leaders, whilst those leaders themselves can look to promotional opportunities across and within our Trust. This team spreads its net wide; encompassing, assisting and advising on all aspects of school improvement.
SCHOOL SUPPORT TEAM
ALP has developed a highly effective and financially efficient network of Central Support including compliance; business management; finance; marketing and publicity; data systems; human resources; and information technology. The Academy’s educational leaders are therefore released from managing areas and can maximise the opportuni- ties for improving the life chances and educational prospects of their young students.
SUCCESS IN AREAS OF HIGH DEPRIVATION
Our Trust currently consists of Primary and Secondary Schools within County Durham, all of which predominantly serve areas of high deprivation.
The outcomes of disadvantaged students in our highly disadvantaged schools
is outstanding. The strategies and their implementation are undertaken with a forensic attention to detail led by specialist, highly experienced staff.
