Vinit Kumar new CPT chairman
Vinit Kumar, a 1993-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers, today took
over as the full-time chairman of Calcutta Port Trust.
The full-time chairman's post was vacant for the last 19 months since March 2016 after R.P.S Kahlon
was arrested on graft charges and was sent to jail.
A fortnight after Kahlon's arrest, Babu, who is the chairman of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, was
given the additional charge of the CPT, which operates ports at Calcutta and Haldia, on March 24.

Besides maintaining the competitiveness of the twin ports, Kumar will have to drive the development
of a new port at Tajpur in East Midnapur.
Shashi Shanker appointed as CMD of ONGC
Shashi Shanker was today appointed as the chairman and managing director (CMD) of India's biggest
oil and gas producer ONGC. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appoint-
ment to the post of CMD, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), till the date of his superannua-
tion, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said. Shanker, at present direc-
tor (technical and field services), ONGC, has taken over the charge as CMD from October 1.

Shri Balraj Joshi takes over as CMD, NHPC
State-owned NHPC today said Balraj Joshi has taken over as its Chairman and Managing Director.
"Balraj Joshi has taken over as Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC Ltd, India's premier hydro-
power utility...on September 22, 2017," NHPC said in a statement. Prior to his elevation as Chairman
and Managing Director, Joshi was Director (Technical) of the state-owned firm. During his career of
over 35 years, he looked after various projects of the hydro major including Salal, Dul Hasti and Kurichu.
He became Director (Technical) in April last year. Joshi holds a degree in civil engineering from Gov-
ernment Engineering College, Karad, Maharashtra. He also holds PG qualification in hydropower

development and planning from the Norwegian Technical Institute, Trondheim, Norway.
Rajnish Kumar to succeed Bhattacharya as SBI chief
Rajnish Kumar, 59, the most senior of the managing directors at State Bank of India (SBI), will be-
come the 25th chairman of the country's largest lender, succeeding Arundhati Bhattacharya, who
retir on 6 October. The government announced his appointment for three years. Kumar is currently
in charge of retail banking at SBI. The appointment comes at a time when SBI'S profitability is under
strain because of ballooning bad loans and sluggish credit growth.
