      Information Report in Form No. 56 CMV Rules, 1989
      u/s 158 (6) M VAct, 1988 received from a Police Officer
      investigating the case. It may be noted that as per section
      158(6) it is mandatory for the officer in charge of a
      police station to submit Accident Information Report in
      Form No. 56 CMV Rules, 1989 to the MACT within 30
      days with a copy to the insurance company.

      Earlier time limit for filing claim application was provided
      u/s 166 (3) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. However
      the same was omitted from the Act w.e.f 14/11/194.
      Since then, there exist no time limit for filing application
      for compensation.

Q5.   Describe the powers of the Claims Tribunal.
Ans:  Motor Accident Claims Tribunal constituted u/s 165
      M. V. Act, 1988 vested with the exclusive jurisdiction
      relating to adjudication of application relating to
      payment of compensation for personal injury or
      property damage. Section 169 M V Act, empowers
      the claims tribunals with all the powers of a Civil Court
      for the purpose of taking evidence on oath, enforcing
      the attendance of witnesses and of compelling the
      discover and production of documents, etc.
