           Diverse Shades of Hong Kong
Once, while attending a 2-Week Orientation Programme for Overseas
Posted Officers at Bombay, we got an indication that we would join the
destination overseas branch without family initially. We would search for
suitable family accommodation of our choice and after about a month,
the family could join. We were to be put up jointly in some flat till then.

           Landing at Hong Kong
We were warmly received by our colleagues at the airport and taken to
a flat. We were four Managers accommodated in four different bed
rooms of the flat that was about 10 kms away from the branch office.
We had a meeting with the country head next morning.

How Hong Kong got its name and a lot more

The name "Hong Kong" in the English language is an approximate
phonetic rendering of the Cantonese or Hakka pronunciation of the
Chinese name meaning "fragrant harbor or port."

Hong Kong Island is a part of the Wanshan Archipelago and is the biggest
island along with one major peninsula named Kowloon in the South China
Sea. Both of them are big commercial centers. Kowloon is separated by
sea from Hong Kong Island by about 4 km. They are well connected by
undersea tunnel for road transport, undersea metro tube rail and also
through Ferry service over the sea.

Hong Kong became a Crown Colony of the British Empire for 156 years.
