60. The problems exist everywhere,
only degree and shape may vary
I got transferred from Hong Kong to Indian branch of the bank.
Expats normally were not availing many leave days from work
while at overseas center. They were allowed to avail the unused
leave back in India and before joining any Indian Branch. Head
office used to take some time in deciding the place of posting in India. I
found this practice of waiting for Indian posting for months very
unjustified looking to several uncertainties faced by the repatriated
officers, due to this.
I had two months leave to avail. I did not know where to stay and where
to take container of household goods. However, being no other
alternative, I brought my household goods to my hometown. I did not
get my posting orders for 6 weeks. Then I spoke to our GM (Personnel)
and reminded him about my pending posting after returning from Hong
Kong. He very kindly informed me that the matter was under
consideration and might take another week to get the posting.
Finally, I got posting at one of the largest branches of the bank in India.
It was very inconvenient to transport all the goods all over once again
to the place of posting after searching a house on lease at a new place.
The kids' exams were underway and settling them in some good school
was a big issue.
Posted by Head Office as Head of Forex Department; but
settled as Head of Credit Department even though
"Non-lending" was a "safe-landing"
I went to join the new branch. I had to replace the In-charge of Foreign
