73. The Singapore Voyage







          T         he work culture at this one of the largest branch offices of India


                    was beginning to gnaw at my peace and job expectations,
                    driving me towards utter dissatisfaction, and that was the time
                    when I had decided to pursue for other employment
           opportunities.


           While working under persisting stress, I did not find meaning in the work.
           Even my Senior Officers started coaxing me to look for some opportunity
           at Hong Kong where I had worked. I sent a feeler to my ex-colleagues
           abroad to look for some suitable employment opportunity for me in Hong
           Kong or Singapore. As compared to UK, it was much easier to get
           employment there matching my work experience. And incidentally, I got
           one at Singapore.

           Even the last day at work was so eventful
           On the last day of my duties at the bank, the Branch Chief announced in
           the morning about holding a farewell party for me at 4 pm. At about
           11.30 am, two workers from different workers' unions clashed on some
           issue which flared up as no action was taken by the Branch Chief against
           the so called 'erring' staff. All Heads of different departments and the
           Branch Chief got busy in sorting out this issue for pacifying both the
           workers' unions.


           Post lunch also no one approached me to update whether under such a
           tense and explosive situation, farewell would be held or not. I waited up
           to 4.30 pm and sent in a message that I could understand the situation
           and would like to leave thanking all the colleagues. Then, they conveyed
