I am associated with one of the big 5 consultancy firms. He suggested
that I could be a professor with some B-School looking to my matching
work exposure and long experience in the industry.
I had been thinking for so many months to apply for teaching assignment
like this but had been rejecting my own idea presuming that Management
Institutes might be asking for Ph.D. degree as an essential qualification.
I then applied online with half a dozen B-schools in NCR and got calls from
some of them. Every interview improved my subsequent one and I landed
a job as an Associate Professor in Finance Area with a B-School and
started earning a reasonable salary. The office also became habitable after
a couple of years after my joining the teaching. But I liked the teaching
and did not look back.
I observed here that in 2 years of my stay at this B School, about 60%
faculty had left for better salary and higher cadre for other B-Schools. I
also decided to follow the suit as making moves was more rewarding and
satisfying. I applied for the teaching position with better paying five B-
schools in the near vicinity. I was interviewed at four B-schools who gave
me appointment letter but it was not my targeted hike and therefore, I
did not join any of these B-Schools.
I got a call from the 5th B-School but I was a bit disheartened by this
time and presumed that they would also not give me the desired package.
I was not so much willing to go for this interview. My wife reminded me
about the date but I was not enthusiastic. My wife reminded me of my
own belief not to reject our own application ourselves. I then decided to
attend the interview. I appeared and got the desired position at Birla
Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) having a much better
branding than others and ranked amongst top 10 private b-schools.
Great! It worked again!
Here, I achieved a lot as a rewarding career. I completed my Ph.D. while
