Overseas posting

How I applied for the overseas posting the third time
This reminds me of a similar situation when I was posted in India. We
got a circular form our Head office announcing the vacancies for overseas
branches and invited applications form eligible officers. Two of us posted
at the Regional Staff College of the bank, were eligible but forgot to apply
as we got extremely busy with a project at hand. Moreover, we were
dejected with not succeeding in last two processes and we were not very
enthusiastic about it third time.

Just two days before the closing date to apply, I happened to sight that
circular again. While still busy with the project, I mentioned of the
deadline to my other colleague who shrugged it off saying, "We should
not have any more humiliation when many of our juniors are posted
overseas and we faculty members who trained them, are not selected."

It occurred to my mind that unless we apply, there is no chance of success
this time also. I asked him, "Is it not necessary to buy a lottery ticket first,
to stand some chance for getting a prize? Moreover, if we do not apply,
no body from Head Office would come and motivate us to apply. " He
instantly agreed. We decided first to apply within the deadline and to
think over the larger issue later with free mind to participate in the
process or not.

We finally participated in the selection process and fortunately enough,
we both got selected that time. I viewed the situation in slightly different
way of participating in a lucky draw that also meant the same that we
