Since 2005, as a part of senior management team of Birla Institute of
Management Technology (BIMTECH), a highly ranked private Business
School, I have been residing at the campus. We used to share our expe-
riences in work and life in different contexts including some of my anec-
dotes from banking. Our director, Dr. H. Chaturvedi, kept on motivating
me to put together all my interesting and Insightful experiences from
Banking, in a book form. The full credit for the book ideation goes to him
and I thank him for all his support in this regard.
The diverse, interesting, challenging and Insightful encounters the author
had, during more than two decades in an international bank in India and
Hong Kong as well as dealing with banks as a CFO of a company in
Singapore, have crafted the story of "A Banker down the Rabbit Hole".
The episodes cover wide ranging major themes in chronological order,
some of the major ones are briefly described here under:
X The organizational risk management: a tight rope for balancing the
interest of the customer and the organization: vigilance revealed
problems and also presented solutions; catching early warning sig-
nals before the loan became a Non Performing Asset (NPA) saved
the bank from huge losses; devised tactics in recovering loans.
X Perks and Perils of being a Banker: how the author coped up with
threat to life on duty; defended the charges of negligence in recov-
ery in spite of sincere follow-up; had perennial fear of some lapse in
credit appraisal or monitoring and transactions other than loans.
X Challenging the status quo led to astounding findings to act for the
risk management for the bank.
X The Organizational Culture and Office Dynamics
