A different orchestra
Goals
Students must:
Be able to get to know the timbre of the instruments that
participate in the band.
To understand the way of construction, sound production
and technical playing of the musical instruments of the
band.
To understand the concept of orchestra, band.
To develop skills, such as listening skills, observation and
self-concentration.
Activities
1. Start the lesson by having students listen to a piece of
band music from cd 42 and ask them to answer the Student's
Book question (p. 58) 'Guess which of the...'. Then start a
discussion with the students and ask them the question "What is
an orchestra?". This will give you the opportunity to understand
how the students perceive the concept of orchestra, explain to
them that there are different types of orchestra and talk to them
about the band giving information about the band, how it was
created and for the families of musical instruments participating
in it (see Teacher's Book, p. 68). Have students listen to band
music excerpts from cd (43).
