“INFORMATION&MEDIA LITERACY”
Training Course Syllabus
The objectives of the training course ‘Media Literacy’
In this day and age we are witnessing the rapid development of information
technologies, their globalization, the use of cloud technologies and the widespread
mass distribution of mobile personal digital devices for accessing the Internet among
children, the emergence of a large number of network services and Internet
communication platforms, including closed network communities of unknown origin,
as well as public /basically intrusive/ Internet resources (media texts, advertising,
spam) containing negative and aggressive content, the expansion of the threats of new
networking. Such unprecedented interference in personal information space on
personal devices dramatically increases the need to educate young people on
information security and help them become media literate in order to prevent the
negative consequences of the mass use of the Internet and protect them from
aggressive and illegal information, including fake news as people are at risk of being
exposed to various forms of disinformation, propaganda, violent messages,
indoctrination, and hate speech.
The main course goal is to teach students to understand and critically assess all forms
of media and their content, media industries, and how they affect /young/ people. This
course aims to help youngsters develop an informed, critical, and practical
understanding of new communication media including analysis of digital media. In
particular, they are supposed to explore the methods and approaches of various media
industries, identify the effects media have on people, understand benefits and potential
negative effects of media content, and identify techniques to become more media
