The implementation of the training course program is possible in different forms:
- by integrating in such school subjects as "Social Sciences", Language Arts and "IT"
(section "Social Informatics") for grades 10 -11 (about 30 teaching hours);
- within the framework of a separate training course "MIL" when choosing from
optional school subjects;
- as extra-curricular activities provided for students in the educational organizations /
e.g. school clubs, etc./.
General characteristics of the training course ‘Media&Information Literacy’
The course comprises a series of tutorials, discussions and research about media
literacy in its contemporary context including theoretical frameworks for the study of
new media practices along with the new media production and use (such as blogging,
podcasting, video blogging, social networking, tagging, file sharing, memes, etc.) so
that students will be able to gain a better gauge for understanding how these new
media act. Students will be taught by using academic approaches such as project-based
and learner-centred ones; they are supposed to work collaboratively and collectively
to build their knowledge in how these media are created, used, interpreted, and re-used
by themselves and others. As a result of this course, students will have a firm grasp on
the treatments and relationships of information and media literacy in learning contexts.
