TDM BIG SHOOTER
By Danny Camp
Awise man once said, a big shot is just a small shot that keeps on shooting. That is the case with TDM Big Shooter.
The two-year-old gelding ran back his first two outs. But then, in the June 27 trials to the Wyoming Bred Futurity, he fired a big bullet. He was the fastest qualifier in the trials, winning his heat wire- to-wire by a length.
And then he did the same thing in the July 11 Wyoming Bred Futurity finals.
After a couple of scratches, eight qualifiers lined up eyeballing the $26,600 total purse 300 yards away. TDM Big Shooter got away from the two-hole in great shape and on the lead. He ran a steady and even race and was never headed throughout the con- test. The gelding showed strength and athleticism, and won the race with authority.
Rider Oscar Cervantes qualified a couple to the race and he wisely chose to ride TDM Big Shooter. Together, they tripped the timer in :15.965 for an 82 speed index.
The $9,201 first place money ups TDM Big Shooter’s bankroll to $12,545.
TDM Big Shooter is owned by Tyson Morgan and trained by Steve Morgan. He was bred by Mike Lipp in Wyoming, out of Tru Socialite. The mare was a non-winner, but was a finalist in the Pot O’Gold Futurity-G3 at SunDowns.
Tru Socialite has produced 100% money earn- ers from her five starters, including her top earner Catlow Rim. TDM Big Shooter, however, is her first stakes winner.
Cj Cashin Cartel (Jess Cartel-Cashin Alyssa) and rider Tyson Lusk didn’t get away from the gates the best, but the jockey encouraged his mount and they crossed the finish line in second place. Cj Cashin Cartel is owned by Shur-Bet Stables and trained by Micheal Monson.
Cd Jack Daniel Proud (Br Proudest Victory- Tmz Misbehavin) ran a steady and even race to take third place money under the guidance of Justin Vanderwoude for Daniel J. & Carol L. Lee and trainer Justin Thompson.
No Secrets Sister (No Secrets Here-Be A Sister), Mercys Effort (Mercy Me Tb-Kc Specially Maid), Cd Stripn To Victory (Br Proudest Victory-Noble Winken Rayn), Sixs Totally Ronas (First N Six- Totally Tempting) and Cayenne Chic (Brindis Por Cayenne-Gm Check Her Out) completed the order of finish. Jes Zoomin Girl and Lil Bit Of A Secret were both scratched.
Wyoming Bred Derby
JEANS LEE
by Danny Camp
Blue-collar workers are the salt of the earth, and that is a good description of Jeans Lee. The three-year-old filly, with her latest victory in the 350-
yard $19,100 Wyoming Bred Derby on July 12, has a race record of two wins out of six races. And she has won her last two in a row, both in the same fashion - by grit and determination.
Jeans Lee won her trial to the Wyoming Bred Derby on June 28, breaking well, grabbing the lead early, and holding on for a head victory. Her :17.620 was worth a career-high 104 speed index and the fourth fastest time.
The hard-knocking filly came back ready to win the July 12 finals.
Once again, Jeans Lee broke well and took the early lead. She had a nose margin at the top of the stretch, and her grit gave her the nod as she put her nose in front at the wire after a strong challenge from Fly For Mckoy.
Jeans Lee stopped the clock at :17.986 for a 92 speed index. The $6,685 winner’s share takes her total bankroll to $11,903. Jeans Lee also holds a third place finish in last year’s Sweetwater Wyoming Bred Futurity.
Jeans Lee is bred and owned by William C. Fox, and is trained by Mike Taylor. Oscar Cervantes was up after qualifying jockey Clyde Smith opted for another mount in the finals.
Jeans Lee is out of five-time winner Heavens An Effort, who was third in the Dixie Downs Derby and a finalist in the Bitterroot Futurity-RG1 and Bitterroot Derby-RG3.
The mare has produced five winners and six ROM from her seven starters, including additional stakes winner and her top earner Brothers Effort. She is also the dam of stakes-placed winner Austins Flyer.
Fly For Mckoy (Fit To Fly-Swift Lady Duncan) was second under Justin Vanderwoude for Elizabeth Johnson and trainer Travis Offret.
Eyesa Special River (Eyesa Special Slim-Streakin Camilla) was third under Luis Peralta for Broken Bones Cattle Co. and trainer Jesse Villegas.
Lil Shameless Sage (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Shameless Angel), Jlcjazzslibro (Bono Jazz-Chasin Banks), A Dashin Secret Life (Dashin Moon Shadow-A Secret Life), Vvr Calvin Labeck (Coronas Velvet-Get Down Betty), Michelle Suzanne (Ivory James-Rtr Sliding Heels), Unitas Legendary (Legendary Dreamer-Unitas Queen) and Tr Letther First (Tr Dasher-Lett Her Dash) completed the order of finish.
Utah Bred Futurity
BF FOOSERAGEOUS
by Danny Camp
Nine top two-year-old Utah-breds lined up for the finals of the 350-yard $30,000 Utah Bred Futurity at Wyoming Downs on July 11. They had
qualified to the event during the June 20 trials, but the original July 4 finals date was cancelled due to weather and poor track conditions. There were no weather problems this day, however, and the track was fast.
Fastest qualifier Bf Fooserageous, who had won her last 3 outs - and ran them faster every time, was true to form. She left the 2-hole on the lead and slowly but surely put the field behind her, finishing 1 1/2-lengths front in :17.714 for a 101 speed index.
BF Fooserageous has now won 4 in a row. The $13,800 winner’s share takes her bank to $23,941. Uriel Dominguez, her regular pilot, was aboard for this stakes winning trip.
The filly is owned by Birrell Farms and is trained by Ron Moosman. She was bred by Birrell Farms in Utah, out of 5-time winner Bf Outrageous, who won the 2003 Diamond Classic Derby at this same track. The mare has produced 100% money earners from 4 starters. BF Fooserageous is her second stakes winner and joins Bf Regal Rage, who is the mare’s top earner.
Even though Clyde Smith had qualified another horse, when he had a chance to ride Zoose (Foose- Nuturist) he took it because he knew the horse that had a good chance. They broke in good shape and ran strong to take 2nd for Tom Peterson & trainer Ron Moosman. Five Bar Lucky (Tac It Like A Man-Five Bar Classy) was 3rd under Jesus Canales for Five Barkers Inc. and trainer Ron Moosman. Followed by Hes A Corona Bay (Brookstone Bay- Flaming Corona), Hoopster (Foose-Moving South), Brooks Runaway (Brookstone Bay-A Fast Runaway), Jess Pollitical (Apolitical Jess-Chickado Doll), Ms Makin Moves (Maknmoves-Ms Legacy Lane) & Rose Canyon Gal (First Prize Stone-Vs Chips Away). Persuitofperfection was scratched.
