  COUNT THEM AGAIN
Lola J. Cuellar’s Count Them Again was a prompt favorite in the October 27, 6-furlong New Mexico Cup Lassie Championship (R) for state-bred 2-year-old fillies at Zia Park.
Prepped by J. Jaime Fuentes and sent to post as the 3-5 choice in the field of 10, Count Them Again defeated 6-1 third choice Reception by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:12.86. Francisco Arrieta rode the bay daughter of Premeditation, who banked the $87,000 winner’s share of the $145,000 purse.
Count Them Again was bred by Jim Volk. The filly is one of seven black-type stakes win- ners from 72 starters sired by Premeditation, a Kentucky-bred multiple stakes winning son of the Private Terms stallion Afternoon Deelites.
Raced in five states from 2001-03, includ- ing New Mexico, Premeditation earned $318,000 from 18 starts, and his four stakes wins included the 2002 Alysheba Breeders’ Cup Stakes at Lone Star Park and Borderland Derby at Sunland Park. The stallion has sired the earners of more than $3.7 million from 12 crops, including multiple stakes winners Double Smart and Run Like Fire.
Premeditation is owned by VV Farms LLC and stands at Anthony, New Mexico.
Count Them Again is the first starter foaled by her dam, the unraced 7-year-old Royal Orleans mare Count Your Cards. The filly’s second dam, the winning Capote mare Bold Feat, ran third in the 1999 Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park and Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
Count Them Again traces back to her third dam, Kazadancoa (FR), a winning daughter of the Nijinsky II stallion Green Dancer. A ’78 foal, Kazadancoa produced three graded stakes winners -- Changing Ways, the winner of the 1994 Schuylerville Stakes (G2) at Saratoga, Jacodra’s Devil, the winner of the ’95 Santa Anita Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G3), and Jacodra, the winner of the 1991 Potrero Grande Handicap (G3) at Santa Anita Park.
Count Them Again was coming off of an Albuquerque Downs summer campaign during which she won both of her outs, including the open 6-furlong, $50,000 Manzano Stakes on August 10. The filly has won all three of her starts and has earned $129,180.
Chary Ride finished third, three lengths behind Count Them Again. Two Stepper, Gold Of Roses, Smart Track, Laugharoo, Say Hello
To Heat, Navarones Legend, and Directed Lady completed the order of finish.
Runner-up Reception is a chestnut daughter of Attila’s Storm campaigned by R.D. Hubbard and Paul Blanchard. A full sister to stakes- placed runners Stormy Day and Go For A Stroll, the homebred filly has earned $50,600 from two outs.
Chary Ride races for Gallegos del Norte Racing of Albuquerque and Nate Roybal. A homebred daughter of the Vronsky stallion Excessive Passion, Chary Ride has banked $28,349 from four starts.
